The neglect of children and young people by their primary caregivers is a significant issue that has a damaging effect on the development of affected children in both the short and long term.
It affects all aspects of emotional, physical, cognitive and behavioural development, and children may be affected by neglect at any point in their life, from early years to adolescence.
It is, therefore, important that all those coming into contact with potential victims are properly prepared to understand and identify neglect when they encounter it.
This course will provide base level knowledge and understanding of the various forms of neglect, their effects on the victim and the key reasons why neglect occurs.
